Comments: | Due to the importance as a food fish of tilapia introduced to Lake Bunyoni, Uganda, Belgian colonial authorities officially sponsored the introduction of tilapia into Lakes Bulera and Luhondo (Ref. 35818). The introduction of tilapia and some Haplochromis may have been the reason for the decimation or extinction of three autochthonous cyprinid species (Barbus microbarbis, B. neumayeri and Varicorhinus ruandae) in Lake Luhondo (Ref. 35818). Reintroduced in 1951 from Zaire (Ref. 1739). Ref: De Vos, L., J. Snoeks and D.F.E. Thys van den Audenaerde, 1990 |
